A Monster in Paris

Directed by Bibo Bergeron
Starring Vanessa Paradis, Sean Lennon/-M-, Adam Goldberg/Gad Elmaleh
The Zeitgeist: fresh85%

A Monster in Paris (Un Monstre à Paris) is an intriguing, captivating and enchanting movie with beautiful animation, a superb original soundrack, and a lack of hollywood saccharine sentimentality. It evokes compassion to the extent we could see ourselves (almost) thinking twice about squashing the next flea we happen upon. Well, we certainly would if it was 7ft tall… but it avoids being obvious in its message. Strongly recommended for both kids and their parents, it’s also recommended for the fantastic, uplifting, songs on its soundtrack. Vanessa Paradis is superb as always, whilst Raoul is either (equally well) represented by Sean Lennon or -M- dependent on if you’re watching in English or French. For us Sean wins out, but we’ve always been Ono fans.
